Bengaluru’s Pink Line Metro has moved closer to opening its first elevated stretch on Bannerghatta Road, after the train received oscillation clearance from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation. The update has raised expectations that the section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere could open for public use around August 15, 2026, subject to final safety approvals.
The clearance is an important step for the pink line metro Bangalore, as it allows the project to move towards inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety. Once this process is completed, passenger services can begin on the elevated corridor.

What the Latest Clearance Means
The latest update on the pink line metro Bangalore opening date comes after the completion of oscillation trials and Emergency Braking Distance tests. These trials are required before a train is approved for public service.
Oscillation trials check the train’s stability, ride quality and safe operating speed on the track. Emergency Braking Distance tests measure how safely a train can stop under required conditions. According to the report, train operations have been cleared at the design speed of 90 kmph, with no speed restrictions specified.
BMRCL will now submit the oscillation report and other required documents to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety. The inspection is expected to include review of the train at the Kothanur depot, along with maintenance facilities such as the washing plant, water jet system and train-lifting pit jacks.
Another key requirement is the Independent Safety Assessment certificate for signalling and train control systems. This certificate validates the safety of the signalling system and its interface with other metro subsystems. Once these remaining procedures are completed, the elevated section can move towards final approval.
Pink Line Metro Route Bangalore: First Section Details
The first operational section of the pink line metro route Bangalore will connect Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere. The elevated stretch is around 7.5 km long and will pass through six stations.

Jayadeva Hospital will be one of the most important stations on the route. It will act as an interchange with the Yellow Line, helping commuters travel towards RV Road, BTM Layout and the Electronic City side with better ease.

What Comes Next for the Pink Line
After the elevated section opens, focus will shift to the underground part of the Pink Line between Dairy Circle and Nagawara. This underground corridor is around 13.5 km long and is expected to open later.
No fresh rolling stock approval is expected for the underground stretch, as the same trainsets will be used. Once the full Pink Line is operational, it will connect South Bengaluru with central and northern parts of the city.
This will make the corridor more important for cross-city travel, especially for commuters moving between residential areas in the south and employment or transit hubs in central and north Bengaluru.
